Hieromonk in schema Iliodor

The sick man suffered hard without a murmur. He saw cleansing of sins and health of soul in illnesses. He did not resort to any remedies except Great Mysteries of Unction and Holy Communion. He received the Holy Communion every day during the Lent of 1895, and during the Easter Week he did it every other day. So we may say, that during the last period of his life Starets breathed and ate only the Sweetest Name of Jesus Christ and His Most Holy Gifts of His Flesh and Blood.

The strict life of Starets opened his spiritual eyes thanks to God’s Grace. He foresaw his death a year before it, and in the 6th week of the Lent in 1895 he said to Monk T. “Maybe, I will be alive on Easter”. And it happened just in this way. On the Friday of Easter Week he said to the novice, who was near him: “I will die in two days.” Two days passed. In the morning of Low Sunday on the 9th of April 1895 Starets received the Holy Communion and in the evening he died quietly being 72 years old. His death is blessed indeed! There are few people, who can get prepared for the other life so thoroughly! When the deceased was dressed, his face shone with otherworldly light.

The brethren took one of their best Fathers to his grave with joyful Easter hymns.
